2 Assembly Bills Stopped by Arts Community Advocacy

AB 2446 and AB 35, both introduced by Assembly Member Warren Furutani (D-Long Beach), have stalled in the Senate Appropriations Committee.  The arts community, arts educators and parents were seriously concerned about the impact of these bills, which would have permitted students to bypass the minimal arts course requirements in the curriculum (courses also required, by the way, for admission to UC & CSU colleges).  Strong advocacy efforts by California Alliance for Arts Education (CAAE) helped mobilize a tidal wave of communications to the State Senate after these bills enjoyed early gains in the Assembly.  Arts Orange County went on record as opposing these bills, and thanks all of those in the OC who helped get the message across to our legislators.
