Let’s Get Pink-i-fied

Only engagement can produce mastery. And the pursuit of mastery…has become essential in making one’s way in today’s economy…Yet in our offices and our classrooms we have way too much compliance and way too little engagement”. Excerpt from “Drive” by Daniel Pink.

Dan Pink is a-comin to town and I have to admit I’ve become a huge fan. He was here in 2008 and we took a big leap of faith along with our good buddies at OC Dept. of Ed that he would deliver the goods. And by “goods” I mean I was really hoping that he would validate everything we’d been saying about the importance of an arts education to build the skills business is looking for. I must say he delivered. We’re proud to bring him back on March 15 with some new partners added – PTA and the OC Performing Arts Center!

I’m halfway through reading his new bestseller,  “Drive, the surprising truth about what motivates us”. If you apply what he’s saying to education, it speaks volumes about how the very things that engage us and  lead us to innovate have  been edged out of the schools.  Not just for students but for our dear teachers as well. We have a lot of smart people here in Orange County, starting with Bill Habermehl (Superintendent of OC Dept. of Ed) – let’s lead the way in our state! And we can start by connecting in the break out sessions after Pink to agree on our action plans.
